Carol
mother of 5 year old Chloe with C2 spinal cord injury
I decided to work with Judy Cheng at Move to Learn Therapy because of her extensive experience with children, convenient location, and professional yet caring email communication.
The case studies I have read sounded like the Anat Baniel Method and Feldenkrais® Method really had a lot to offer my daughter where traditional PT and OT were not overly successful to allow progression in her mobility.
Chloe’s movements were fairly labored and her muscles very stiff. After a few sessions with Judy, she learned to relax and that allowed for more fluid movement of her body. She can now easily roll to her tummy and back. Also, she moves her arms much quicker.
I am relieved to know that there is a therapy out there that will take Chloe to a more mobile life. I now realize that I can just play with Chloe to help her instead of focus on making sure the therapy gets done. If she’s happy, she is more relaxed. Our family life is busy but I have to make the kids a priority and “playing” with Chloe is easy.
Chloe is a very determined child who is willing to try new things. After her therapy with Judy, instead of being tired she was actually full of energy, encouraged by her ability to move easier and that continued at home. She never wants to take a break!
I am surprised at how easy the exercises can be integrated into a day at home and that Chloe enjoys it. It really isn’t “invasive or intense” for the child but the results are almost too good to be true. I don’t understand why this method of therapy isn’t more well known throughout the therapy community. We would have come much, much sooner if we had known about it.
It is definitely worth a try. Seeing is believing in this case, although it’s not mainstream therapy yet the results are undeniable!
