Nicola

mother of 2 year old Jasper with hydrocephalus and low grade glioma

We had been doing traditional physiotherapy for about 5 months, and while we were making some progress, the sessions were a very negative experience for my son Jasper – he usually cried the entire time. We felt that there must be a better way, and that’s why we decided to try the Feldenkrais Method®.

We found Judy through her website, and the “Let me ask you a few questions” section on the home page really resonated with us.

Jasper is almost two and is able to push himself up to a sitting position and to stand with support. He has not yet started crawling, pulling to stand, or walking. We are eager for Jasper to learn to walk because we feel it would make him happy to be able to explore the world around him.

Jasper happily takes part in his sessions with Judy (as opposed to his dislike of physio). Because of this we enjoy practicing the movements with him at home, and I think this will lead to greater progress.

It’s still early in our Feldenkrais sessions, but Jasper is already able to reach to his side for a toy and get into a crawling position. He is also able to easily get into a high kneeling position.

We weren’t entirely sure what to expect, but I was happy to see Judy work so gently with Jasper, and in a way that seemed to intuitively work with his body, helping him realize new ways of moving.

I would definitely suggest that other parents try Feldenkrais®, especially if traditional physiotherapy is not working well for them.

Latest update

Jasper’s been making lots of progress. He started walking independently last September, and he’s trying to run now 🙂 He’s able to stand up from sitting on the floor all by himself, and he can walk up and down stairs holding onto a railing and someone’s hand. And he’s talking up a storm now, too! I was so proud of his journey towards walking. I think that even though we weren’t able to work with Judy for as long as we would have liked, she did make a significant contribution to his progress.
