Catherine

mother of 8 year old Samuel with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood

My child has a brain injury and we thought it would be beneficial to work on his balance and weak co-ordination through using the Anat Baniel Method.

Judy Cheng’s website, the proximity of her clinic and the information provided on the phone before booking the appointment gave me confidence that we were doing the right thing by working with her. This is an investment, both financial and time-wise, that we decided was worth trying if it could heighten our family life as a whole by having a more confident boy with us.

After the first 3 introductory sessions, I noticed that Samuel was more aware of his body and confident already in his movement and he was able to adopt his new movements even when he experiences dystonia.

Furthermore, Samuel told me that he wanted to book a massage appointment with the other therapist (as he was under the impression Judy was also a massage therapist!) The treatments are so gentle and tactile, that Samuel doesn’t realize he is working throughout the session.

Samuel was open to the treatment and was happy when coming out of the sessions – aware of his previous (and still present) “bad posture” and now aware of how to better use his body. I think it is novel and so different from all the other kinds of therapy that I am happy we tried it and will pursue more sessions in the next several weeks.

Judy is extremely professional. She knows how to make Samuel comfortable and speak to him with a soothing voice. No one is failing with her. Even if Samuel doesn’t really do what he is supposed to or doesn’t achieve the challenge – it only represents an opportunity for Judy and Samuel to pursue their work and achieve it at a later time.
